National Park on foot or on a bike

A town of Spisska Stara Ves is one of the entering points to the National Park of Pieniny. The smallest national park in Slovakia is located in the region of Zamagurie. Danujec river flows through the park creating natural border line between Poland and Slovakia and inviting tourist to try out traditional wooden rafting down the river. You can find several convenient tourist pathways and cycle routes along the river bank. The main tourist season opens in April and closes in October. Visit the PIENAP National Park in autumn when it is said to be the most beautiful.

 

 

Hiking to the top of the PIENAP

The highest point of the National Park of Pieniny is called “Okrunglica” (982 m above the sea level) and is situated on the Polish side of the park on three sharp rocks called “Tri Koruny”. Start the hike in Červený Kláštor, it takes about 1 hour to 1 hour and 50 minutes to reach the point, depending on your fitness and weather. Or admire the beautiful panorama of Tri Koruny while rafting down the Dunajec river on a traditional wooden raft.

 

 

Pieniny Ridge Trail

If you are one of those who enjoy panoramic views, try a ridge trail of Pieniny. Continue from the Tri Koruny on tourist pathway to Sokolica. The trail with breath-taking views takes about 3 to 5 hours.

 

 

Along the Dunajec river

Follow a tourist pathway or a cycle route along the Dunajec river and enjoy relaxing natural surroundings. For a change, try traditional wooden rafting on the way from Lesnica to Červený Kláštor, and rent a bike for the way back. Make sure to book a bike before you go rafting. The pathway is 9 km long and suitable also for beginners and families with children.

 

Traditional river rafting

Get on a flat wooden raft in Červený Kláštor and enjoy traditional old way of rafting the river. It takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes (depending on the level of the Dunajec river) down to Lesnica. You’ll enjoy spectacular views and learn about natural beauties, traditions and legends of the region. Wondering where Pieniny get their name from or where is the narrower point of the river? Your guide will take you through all this. Rafting season opens around May and closes in October.

Na brehu Dunajca nájdete malú obec Červený kláštor. Turisti v nej navštevujú najmä kartuziánsky kláštor, ktorý preslávil mních Cyprián. V expozícii Kláštorného múzea nájdete aj jeho známy herbár liečivých rastlín. Zájdite si tiež do kúpeľov s veľavravným názvom Smerdžonka. Prírodná minerálna voda so sírovodíkom má blahodarné účinky na pohybový aparát, neurologické a kožné ochorenia, či ako pitný režim pre lepšie trávenie.

 

Pieniny in winter time – fun and active work-out for whole family

Also in winter, Pieniny has a lot to offer. Especially families with children will appreciate the easy ski slopes and kids’ ski tow. It is an ideal place for improvement of your ski technique. The best snow conditions in nearby ski center Ski park ELAND Spišská Stará Ves and resort Pod Bufarkom in Spišské Hanušovce come in January and February. From 14 meters high observation tower you can admire winter nature on palm of your hand. The binocular that will allow you to see the marvellous panorama of Belianske Tatry or well-known Tri Koruny, can be found on the top floor. The perfect day will be topped with pleasant walk to close Jazerské jazero or on the ridge of Spišská Magura up to Ždiar.

 

Wanderings on Polish side of Pieniny

Czorsztyńské lake is a man-made water area, situated only a few kilometres from the borders, at the foot of Pieniny. Rent the rowing boats and hydrobikes or choose from variety of cruises!
